How the NLC works

The NLC lets RNs and LPN/LVNs hold one multistate license that covers practice in all 41 member states — no separate applications needed.

You must have your primary residence in an NLC member state to qualify for a multistate license. A vacation home doesn't count.

If either your home state or your target state is not an NLC member, you need to apply for licensure by endorsement — typically 4–12 weeks.

Endorsement requires license verification, NCLEX scores, transcripts, background check, and fees. Expedited options exist in some states.
