Mandatory CE Topics in Washington
In addition to the total contact-hour requirement, Washington requires every renewing nurse to complete coursework on these specific topics. Most ANCC-accredited bundles cover them as part of a state-specific package.
Health-equity continuing education
2 hours · every cycle
2 of the 8 hours each renewal must be health-equity CE.
Suicide assessment, treatment & management
6 hours · one-time requirement
One-time 6-hour training by the end of the first full year of licensure (counts toward CE).
When Is My Washington Renewal Deadline?
Washington renewal deadlines follow this pattern: End of your birth month. Use the calculator above to estimate your specific deadline based on your last renewal date. The state board issues a courtesy renewal notice, but the legal responsibility for renewing on time is yours.
Practicing nursing on an expired license is a violation of state law. If your renewal lapses, contact the Washington Board of Nursing immediately to learn about late-renewal or reinstatement options.
